Third International Conference on Ayurved for Cancer (I.C.A.C.)

CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

The word cancer itself creates fear and anxiety in the minds of a person. One of its reason being that despite of the conventional treatments available the mortality rate still remains high. Cancer research project was started in 1994 under the guidance of Param Poojya Shri.Prabhakar Keshav Sardeshmukh Maharaj and inspiration of Late Shri. Balasaheb Bharade and Mami Bharade. This project is conducted at Pune, Mumbai and Solapur. Uptil now more than 3000 patients have been registered in the project. Ayurvedic treatment is given under the consulatation of Dr. S.P. Sardeshmukh. Dr.Arvind Kulkarni (Ex-Head of the Dept. Radiation Oncology; Director, Radiation Oncology Department, Lady Ratan Tata Hospital , Mumbai) and Dr.Shirish Kumthekar (well-known Onco-surgeon from Solapur) act as co-ordinators in this project.

The conference was inaugurated by eminent scholar PadmaBhushan Pandit Shriramji Sharma	Dr. K. B. Grant graced the occasion as Chief Guest

Two international Conferences were held at Pune in 1997 and 2002 to putforth the results achieved through this project and to have interchange of views between various treatment options available. The Third International Conference on Ayurved for Cancer was held at Mahabaleshwar between 23 rd to 25 th February 2007.

This is a detail review of the Conference.

Doctors from all over the world participated in this conference. The program began by religious hymns chanted by Pandit Vasantrao Gadgil. The conference was inaugurated by eminent scholar PadmaBhushan Pandit Shriramji Sharma. In the inaugural function Dr.S.P.Sardeshmukh welcomed all the delegates attending the conference. In his inaugural speech, Pandit Shriramji Sharma gave information about Ayurved and Cancer and expressed his views about the treatment option like Agnikarma after Surgery to minimize the recurrence of Cancer. Dr. K. B. Grant also graced the occasion as Chief Guest. He expressed faith in Ayurved towards treating Cancer patients and urged Ayurvedic physicians to strive hard for benefit of cancer patients. The chairman of this conference Dr.Arvind Kulkarni gave information regarding the working of this project and the aims-objectives of this project. Dr. Prashant Suru was the co-ordinator of this session.

An exihibition on “Cancer-Ayurved” was held on this occasion .Ayurvedic products manufactured by Atharva Ayurved Pharmaceuticals were displayed.

In the first session lecture on Research in Ayurved was delivered by Dr.Narendra Bhatt C.E.O of Zandu Pharmaceuticals .Dr. R. D. Lele spoke on Critical Evaluation of Role of Ayurved in Cancer. He proposed that since the basic principles of modern medicine and ayurved are similar it is possible to intermingle the two sciences. He also briefed the delegates about the research work done in the field of Cancer using medicinal herbs described in Ayurved.

On the second day - 24 th February 2007 various research papers were presented by Vd.Ranjeet Nimbalkar, Vd. Vasanti Godse, Vd.Vineeta Deshmukh , Vd. Swapna Kulkarni, Vd..Jyoti Badwe, , Vd. Samir Gore, Vd. Shriniwas Datar, Vd. Renuka Gayal, Vd. Laxmi Jaiswal. The papers presented were based on the work done by Ayurved Hospital Research and Development . Patients registered in the project also narrated their experiences regarding their fight against cancer through positive attitude, about the benefits they achieved by the Ayurvedic and allopathic treatment and also the diet regimen. Vd.Shrikant Bagevadikar, Vd.Urmila Pitkar, Vd.Prashant Sawant presented their individual observations regarding the treatment given by them to cancer patients.

In the next session Dr. R. L. Marathe, Vd. Dilip Gadgil, Dr. A.U. Rehman, Dr. Mike Godfrey, Dr. Pohelmann, Vd. Vilas Nanal, Vd. Balaji Tambe, Dr. Adriana Alexandru delivered lectures on Ayurved & various other healing pathies.

On the Third Day -25 th February 2007 a panel discussion was held .Dr.R.D.Lele, Dr. H. S. Palep, Dr. B. G. Sahastrabuddhe, Dr. Jaiprakash Narayan, Dr. Shirish Kumthekar,

Dr. Narendra Bhatt, Vd. S. P. Sardeshmukh, Vd. Vilas Nanal, Vd. Shrikant Bagevadikar participated in the discussion. Dr. Arvind Kulkarni chaired the session. In the next session Dr. Jaiprakash Narayan, Dr. G. R. Ekbote, Dr. P. H. Kulkarni, Dr. Mahesh Kanojia narrated their experiences on the research work done in cancer.

In the concluding session Advocate C. R. Dalvi expressed satisfaction about the work presented and extended his heartfelt wishes for the project. Dr.S.P.Sardeshmukh thanked all those whose lent a helping hand to make this conference a success.
