A tragic road accident in India has claimed the life of sitar maestro Dr. Chandrakant Sardeshmukh
Chandrakant Sardeshmukh had attended the Samadhi Bhandara (death anniversary rituals) of his father, Shri. Prabhakar Sardeshmukh Maharaj at the Bharatiya Sanskriti Darshan Trust, Wagholi, Pune where he is executive trustee and also director of its music department. He set off for Sholapur to attend Indian Independence Day activities at Tadawal village where he had started an English Medium school.
Sardeshmukh who started playing the sitar at the age of four, was a disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar. He was trained in the Maihar Senia Gharana under Annapurnadevi Ravi Shankar. He had performed solo sitar concerts in several countries including Japan, USA, Germany and Australia.
He is remembered by many as an extraordinary sitar maestro. His concerts mesmerized audiences wherever he performed. He was an upholder of the classical Indian traditional music system, composer, respected teacher, researcher, music therapist with an exceptionally wonderful and generous personality. His wit and sense of happiness is warmly held in the hearts of those who met him. Music lovers, not only in India but all over the world have lost a great exponent of the sitar and a unique human being who had a profound love of humanity and dedication to the highest ideals.

Darshanam
is a
Sanskrit word that means a vision or an insight into something that is
profound or hidden. Darshanam desires to explain the Indian culture and
tradition. We intend to highlight the traditional conventions through
modern sociological religious and scientific perspective. The ancient
knowledge of Vedas, (shastras, puranas and the concept of vidyas, sub
Vedas ancillaries of the Vedas) will be distilled and presented in a
context that appeals to both the knowledgeable and the novices. There
are many individuals with an ardent desire for the prosperity of Indian
culture and tradition. Darshanam intends to bring such individuals
together to help promote the rich heritage of the Indian culture.
Activities such as concerts, lectures, cultural shows and music based
therapy will be used as the primary vehicles to promote the Indian
heritage. We wish to bring the glorious past of India into the present
and utilize it for the best of the human beings. We invite and welcome
all those who wish to support our mission and are interested in either
sponsoring, and organizing programs or joining us in above tasks.
